Sand Delivery In Sussex

Sand

HGS Southern supplies sand to commercial and household building and landscaping projects throughout the Sussex region. As a local sand supplier, we supply locations across the South East with sand in 1 tonne quantities.

The grab trucks that are used for our deliveries can carry a load of 17 tonnes of sand at once when full. This makes our sand distribution service ideal for industrial-scale projects requiring quick delivery of large volumes of sand.

We are headquartered in Shoreham, West Sussex but are able to deliver throughout the Sussex region and beyond. We are versatile and if necessary, we could arrange deliveries of sand early in the morning or late in the evening to operate according to the schedule of your project.

With a wealth of experience in the aggregates delivery industry, we have built great credibility with several local construction firms that now use us as their go-to supplier for sand deliveries. Such collaborations have been so effective that word-of-mouth referrals now generate over 70 per cent of our new business.

What is Marine Sand?

Marine Sand

Since our sharp sand is a marine product it is a natural resource that is dredged and transported to Sussex Wharf. If the sand is unrefined, it can be used as building filling material, structural filling material, and general fill landscaping. The product may be used for concrete, drainage, special reconstituted materials including beach nourishment and non-constructional uses once it has been processed.

Technical Specifications

The sand must be of sufficient gradation for use in building (it should have particles in the correct proportion, from 150 microns to 4.75 mm). If the smaller particles are in good proportion, there will be less voids present, and the quantity of cement needed will be smaller. This means sand will be more cost-effective.

Marine Sand

Marine sand is similar in geological origin and mineral composition to its land-based counterpart. Much of it was deposited by 'Ice Age' rivers, today it is found in underwater valleys.

Marine sand is widely used in the construction industry in the creation of mortar, screed, masonry, and renders manufacture.

The presence of chloride (from sea salt) and shell are the primary distinction between the bulk of land-based and marine sands.

As Dug/Reject Sand

Reject sand, better known as fill sand or dug sand, is a clay-based sand with a minimum content of aggregates. Compared to sharp sand, reject sand is a highly cost-effective aggregate, widely used in the utility sector.

Reject sand comes from a variety of different locations and sites, such as groundworks sites or large excavations.

Reject sand is ideally used to cover incoming services' pipes, electrical cables or other potential hazards.
